After attending the L.R.G fashion show, I definitely have a new found respect for the brand. Their attention to detail and all around philosophy really inspired me to make the most of every day. Doing what you LOVE to do and doing it well is the basic outlook they carry… and It showed in their presentation!

Right about here the DJ started playing some AMAZING tunes from a band called Empire of the Sun. They’re a band from Sydney Australia…and they RIP!!! It was a perfect transition into more urban looks that featured jeans and woven shirts.

Still Filthy Premier Rocks the Hard Rock

Posted by Kacee ON September 12, 2009 • ArtEventsMusicNewsReviewsSurfVideoComment

If the typical trade show party is lot’s of booze, plenty of ladies, a killer new surf flick and good vibes all around, then yes, Billabong’s Still Filthy premier was your typical trade show party.

The Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego’s Gaslamp District was brimming with industry execs, featured (and non featured) pros, poparazzi and everyone else who was lucky enough to get in on the action.

The crowd was well deserved. Still Filthy was packed with insane surfing and even better waves. The movie isn’t out to set boundaries in film making, merely an ample display of great footage matched with a steady, rocking sound track.

The stand out part has to be Shane Dorian tearing Tavarua to shreds. Not only is he racking up hours of tube time at Tavi’s perfect lefts, but the guy is going vertical in some of the most critical sections imaginable. Laurie Towner’s reckless abandon at Shipsterns drew plenty of cheers from the crowd as well, not to mention his tail blowing free surf performance.

Parko with Andy from JS Surfboards

Attention can’t be taken away from the rest of the Billabong guys who are all killing it in the movie. Wade Goodall is doing things on a surf board that doesn’t even seem possible even though it’s being done right in front of your face. Kolohe seems too good at surfing to be that young and we can’t forget about Taj and Parko, both of whom surf beyond description.

The DJ kept it going after the movie ended and if the dance circle was any indication of the good time had by all, everyone must have had a damn good time.

Transmissions From The Cosmic Egg

Posted by Kacee ON September 1, 2009 • ArtMusicVideoComment

I’m not gonna lie, I like things new. I like new clothes, I like new shoes. I enjoy a completely new skate set up and I love stomping pressure dings into my fresh surfboard. I like mornings because they are the start of a new day and no matter how hurt I am from the night before, I love January 1st and the start of a new year.

But if there is one thing I enjoy new more than anything else, it’s new music. I find the task of scrolling through my Ipod a little exhausting these days. That isn’t to say that it’s lacking a solid selection, just that seeing the same names in the same order every single time I look for a jam really neglects my infatuation with all things new.

So the other day while I was mindlessly searching for the perfect tune, I came across a band that had at one point been one of those “new” bands that got me amped on music again. The self titled album from Wolfmother was an automatic for a long time. Then, after repeatedly hearing “Mother” come out of everything that made a sound for about six months straight, the album entered into the dark abyss that is my music library… until now.

This resurrection of sorts is nothing new when it comes to my listening experience, sometimes the music is just right for that point in time. But after rocking heavily to “Joker and the Thief,” I started thinking to myself, “what the hell happened to Wolfmother? Isn’t time for a new album?”

So I did a little digging and low and behold, their new album “Cosmic Egg” is set for release on October 9th. If their single “New Moon Rising” is an indication of what the album is going to be like, then we are in for a treat. It is available for purchase in Hell, I mean Itunes for the amazing low price of one dollar and twenty nine cents. Of course you could just listen to it on our weekly playlist for freeeeee.

But in the meantime, have a look and listen to what front man Andrew Stockdale has to say about the new album. This is a rad little piece that definitely got me amping on the album’s release and the tour that is going to accompany it.

Must See: Pageant of the Masters

When you grow up in one place your entire life, you tend to know the best of the best of things to do. People come by, they ask you what this and that is, you give them the answer and send them on their way.

I can’t tell you how many times over the years that people have asked me about The Festival of Arts, or more specifically, the Pageant of the Masters. My answer was practically a speech, “I haven’t actually been, but it is supposed to be amazing from everything I hear.”

But after last night I have to come up with a new answer and believe it or not, I think it is going to be a little more difficult that my glorified “I don’t know” speech. The Pageant of the masters is one of the most uniquely entertaining things I have ever witnessed.

It is only necessary to describe the gist of what this thing is all about because believe me, unless you actually see it, it is pretty tough to comprehend.

Basically, classic and contemporary art is recreated live on stage, with real people. With a combination of amazing stage lighting, a live orchestra playing an original score, amazing stage recreations of some of the most recognizable paintings and real people sitting in as the subjects, the look of what you witness on stage is unlike anything else.

This whole experience is preceded with a walk through the Festival of Arts, a gathering of art booths in a casual, party like environment. Have a drink, walk around, browse some amazing art and go see one of the coolest live shows around. It is that good, and next time you are in Laguna, be sure and check it out.
