Brand of the Month: Alpinestars in the Community

Posted by Kacee ON November 15, 2010 • ArtCausesMotoComment

Having introduced the motorcross boot in the early years of the sport, Alpinestars began it’s legacy of protection and true performance early on. Staying true to its roots our Brand of the Month, Alpinestars is doing their part to help the community as a whole. From outfiting health workers in Africa to helping orphans in Baja Mexico, Alpinestars is truly giving back to the community we love. Take a peek at a quick Q&A we had with the team.

Can you tell us a little bit about your partnership with Riders for Health?

In Africa, millions of people are suffering from easily-preventable diseases because health workers do not have the reliable transportation to reach them. By ensuring that health workers have access to vehicles that never breakdown, Riders for Health is making sure millions of people across Africa receive regular, reliable health care, often for the first time in their lives. Alpinestars promotes the protection of human life, and by outfitting these health workers in protective gear and supporting their mission, we feel confident that this will be achieved

Are there any significant projects you’d like to discuss that involved Riders for Health?

Alpinestars has been an avid supporter of the charity Riders for Health for several years.

Last year, Alpinestars partnered with the band Angels & Airwaves to offer a capsule line of t-shirts with motorcycle influenced designs. The three styles of tees represent an alliance between Alpinestars and Angels & Airwaves, in aid of the charity Riders for Health. Alpinestars worked closely with the band on these designs which convey their love for motorcycles and their support for Riders for Health. A portion of the proceeds from each t-shirt was donated to the charity.

In July 2009, Alpinestars was also an integral part of CELERITAS, an art show uniting motorcycle culture and art. Raising money and awareness for the Riders for Health organization, over seventeen world-class artists contributed beautiful works of art, using motorcycle helmets, Alpinestars’ suits and a Suzuki Hayabusa as canvases. Curated by Nip Tuck’s John Hensley and Linkin Park’s Joe Hahn, CELERITAS (Latin for speed) is was a show that communicated their passion for motorcycle culture as well as fine art and street art. Hahn and Hensley tapped the resources of world-class artists and motorcycle industry leaders to support the efforts of Riders for Health.

In addition to participating as a sponsor, Alpinestars worked in conjunction with artist Dr. Romanelli by providing technical motorcycle apparel as a canvas for his contribution to the show. Using an Alpinestars racing suit, gloves and boots as a template and Mad Max as inspiration, Dr. Romanelli has deconstructed and reinterpreted the motorcycle suit. Works of art themselves, the racing suits of Alpinestars’ own team riders will were also be on display, including those of leathers from Casey Stoner, Ben Spies, Nicky Hayden and Troy Corser.

What other philanthropic driven programs does Alpinestars support?

Alpinestars also works with Wahoo’s on their annual Baja Charity run. This event centers around the orphaned children of Ensenada, Baja, and includes a food/supply caravan and work teams providing manpower for maintenance projects at the orphanage. As the official apparel sponsor, Alpinestars provides clothing to the Rancho Milagro Children’s home, and outfits Wahoo’s Baja truck team on their ride down to Baja as well as outfitting the volunteers at the orphanage. Alpinestars also provides hats and tees to the Rancho Milagro Children’s Home in Ensenada, Mexico.

Big ups to everyone at Alpinestars for their efforts in giving back to our community we call Earth. It’s always a special treat to learn more about a company you already loved.

Brand of the Month: History of Alpinestars

Posted by Kacee ON November 1, 2010 • MotoStyle2 Comments

Please welcome our Brand of the Month for November 2010: Alpinestars! Having introduced the motorcross boot in the early years of the sport, Alpinestars began a legacy of form and function that shaped the roots of the company. Nearly fifty years later, Alpinestars is synonymous with quality, protection and technology. This commitment to design and innovation has blossomed into an industry-leading apparel division, producing timeless, functional garments with a progressive style. Take a peek at how it all started:

Alpinestars was established in 1963 and has grown into a world-leading manufacturer of professional racing products, high-performance apparel, technical footwear and sportswear. Alpinestars understands that the best design and research is achieved under extreme conditions, and its involvement in Formula 1, the World Rally Championship, AMA and World Motocross and MotoGP has led to the creation of advanced technical equipment for racing’s top athletes.

A leading force in motorcycling and motorsports product development for over 40 years, Alpinestars first made its mark as a ski and hiking boot company. Alpinestars would later shift its focus to the growing motorcycle market after founder Sante Mazzarolo talked to an enduro rider who told him that he needed a special boot for off-road riding. Alpinestars’ first motorcycle boot was introduced in 1965 and it featured several innovations including a steel shin protector and a buckle closure system instead of laces.

Alpinestars focus on racing was the best way to develop and advertise its products, and by working with riders like 5-time World Motocross champion Roger Decoster and 4-time World Motocross champion Heikki Mikkola, Alpinestars quickly became known for its high quality boots and professional image.

After establishing its off-road boots, Alpinestars moved into the motorcycle road racing market in the late 70s. Once again, technical advances such as toe sliders and new levels of protection gained the attention of the best riders, and 3-time Moto GP champion Kenny Roberts showcased Alpinestars’ new boots at racetracks around the world.

Alpinestars made its name in the motorcycling industry, but the company also has a rich history in auto racing. Alpinestars’ involvement in auto racing began in 1990 and the car racing community has been very receptive to its products. Many drivers recognize the brand from motorcycle racing and they appreciate the company’s innovative approach to development and willingness to employ their ideas. Alpinestars’ dedication to excellence has gained the respect of top drivers in F1, CART, WRC and Sportscar.

Influential drivers such as Juan Pablo Montoya, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and NASCAR Champion Kurt Busch all play an integral role in the continuing development of Alpinestars’ racing products.

Developing the best products for the best racers has always been a priority at Alpinestars, and current company President Gabriele Mazzarolo continues to follow this successful philosophy. Legendary road racing riders Kevin Schwantz, Mick Doohan and Alex Criville and motocross legends Bob Hannah, Ricky Johnson and Jeremy McGrath have all won championships with Alpinestars. These elite athletes have all contributed to making Alpinestars’ products stand out in the industry.

Today, Alpinestars’ products are developed by a large international staff with motorcycling and auto racing backgrounds at the company’s laboratories in the United States (Los Angeles) and Europe (Italy). To exceed the needs of racers and consumers around the world, Alpinestars utilizes the latest technology for superior product development.

Alpinestars’ product department features an in-house laboratory to test product and material resistance as well as behavior under various conditions. This enables Alpinestars to ensure the highest quality and consistency for all products. Inside the product department, a pattern and materials development team works with 10 cad-cam stations connected to electronic cutting tables. This development team has a dedicated production line for prototypes, fitting samples and new products.

This line is tested in the lab, on the racetrack and on the road for safety, performance and comfort. Alpinestars has a racing services department containing a full technical support workshop, which allows Alpinestars to offer on-site assistance to the top racers around the world. This results in immediate feedback and quicker development time, which ensures better products for the consumer.

Killer Dana is proud to carry Alpinestars ASTARS apparel line. The ASTARS apparel range pays homage both to Alpinestars’ rich history in motorsports and to its commitment to action sports and fashion. Worn proudly by champions around the world, ASTARS apparel is the manifestation of its deep connection with the best athletes signified by the motto:  One goal.   One Vision.

Brand of the Month: Mulisha Tells All

Posted by Kacee ON September 21, 2010 • MotoReviewsComment

Earlier this month 90+ Metal Mulisha fans submitted questions they had for our Brand of the Month! The Mulisha crew picked the top 15 and here are their answers!

1. How does a rider become a part of the Mulisha family? What is the process? Are they asked to become a Mulisha member? Is there a vote taken or executive decision? –Mark B.

Riders. A) Must have potential to ride very well. B) Must fit the MM profile and get along with all of the other team riders. C) Must have the heart to want to be on the top. And then from there we make them Grunts!! Once a Grunt you must work harder than any guy on the team, proving that you have the heart to be in. Once the team decides your Family, then your Family.

2. Mulisha is all over, FMX, fight teams, rally car, and now Deegan branching into NASCAR. What’s next for Mulisha? What other areas would you like to branch out into? –Levi S.

Metal Mulisha is going to stay true to motor sports for the time being. We still have a long way to go until we are at the top of NASCAR, MX, MMA and truck racing.

3. How come there aren’t more Mulisha girls that actually ride? –Ericka D.

There currently aren’t many girls that are pros that fit our profile.

4. What made you choose your name? How did you come up with it? –John D.

Brian Deegan and Larry Linkogle created Metal Mulisha one day while sitting in their garage. They were just thinking of a hard-core name they could name their crew. At that time there was not thoughts of a clothing company.

5. Do you guys have a scholarship fund or something along that line for up and coming riders? –Jason G.

We are apart of an organization called the AFMXA, witch is set up for up and coming riders to learn how to ride at a top level in a safe way, for a very affordable price.

6. What is your favorite poached site? –Steve O.

We love them all!! But Fitz’s Poach was by far the hardest one to accomplish.

7. Any tips for up and coming riders wanting to start FMX? –Kyle J.

Join the AFMXA to insure you get access the best riding facilities and education to take the next step.

8. How did the Mulisha MMA stuff come about? Do you guys train to fight or are you just big fans of the sport?

Back in the day all of our riders where into fighting as much as dirt bikes, but as you can see dirt bikes took over! So with that said fighting has always been in our DNA. So with the rise of the UFC, WEC and Strike Force it was the perfect opportunity for MM to get back to its roots.

9. When are one of the Mulisha guys gonna try a double flip in natural terrain? –Dallas N.

Most likely not going to happen any time soon. More to loose than to gain.

10. What kinda Mulisha products do you enjoy riding in? –Don S.

Our new gear segment with MSR is top of the line.

11. A lot of you are moving in the way of 4 strokes now, but how did you guys first feel when 2 strokes were first being phased out? –Mark B.

It was a sad day for FMX riders but now there is not much of a choice other than to make the change.

12. How many athletes are sponsored by Mulisha? Also, what is the correlation between you and Rockstar? –Alejandro G.

As of now we have a total of 37 athletes across the board (FMX, MX ,MMA and BMX) Rock Star is a sponsor of majority of our riders and from there we have formed an apparel relationship. Neither one owns each other.

13. Do you guys ever sponsor any youth racers? How do you become a part of that program? –Dylan D.

Yes, we hope to release an off road video this X-mas and we are going to be releasing our FMX film next year witch is called “Black Friday”

14. As freestyle motorcross keep progressing to higher levels, what is Mulisha going to do to be a step ahead of the competition?  -Devin L.

We are going to continue to support our riders through these times and continue to give them the best practice facilities around, as well as keep our eyes open for the next MM grunt!

15. When Twitch stays in a motel, what is the average cost of repairs a night?
–Kevin S.

We made the decision a while back to make Twitch put his personal card down for incidentals so only he can answer that one.

Big ups to all the boys over at Metal Mulisha for being so down to earth and answering these questions.

Brand of the Month: Mulisha in the Community

Posted by Kacee ON September 16, 2010 • MotoReviewsComment

Get to know the softer side of our Brand of the Month: Metal Mulisha. Some would be surprised to find out about how much community involvement they really have. From donating to local charities, supporting our troops overseas, to making dreams come true with the Make A Wish Foundation… Metal Mulisha is a sweetheart (well kinda).

How does Metal Mulisha stay connected to their hundreds of thousands of fans all over the world? Are there international Meet & Greets/Demos?

We stay relevant by doing jump demos and tours all over the world. Our team has been to almost every county doing demonstrations or competing in contest. We also have several international athletes such as Taka whom is from Japan and several Australian riders. We have also invested a lot of time into our social networks and spend a lot of time targeting our consumer all over the world.

Can you tell us about any recent events that you’ve co-sponsored or donated to. How was the Pala Nationals event, we heard you donated to the American Cancer Foundation?

Pala was an awesome event for us. We did donate to the cancer foundation at this one. We also sent clothing out to many other foundations (to many to name) to help out with fundraisers and sometimes out to the kids themselves to let them know we are backing them through their tough times.

Are there any specific social issues that Metal Mulisha holds near and dear to it’s heart? Make a Wish Foundation? AFMXA?

Metal Mulisha have always been huge supporters of the Make A Wish foundation and we are 100% supports of the ARF (Athlete Recovery Fund) and of course the AFMXA.

How does Metal Mulisha support up and coming kids trying to get into the world of Freestyle Motocross? Mini Troopers?

A great way for these guys to get involved is through AFMXA. We hold amateur contests and give them a chance to get their name out there and qualify for major events in the sport such as X-Games. We also have a link on our site to upload your own photos and show us your skills. Go to www.metalmulisha.com for all the details.

Big ups to the Metal Mulisha boys for giving back to their community!
