Thursday, June 10th was Billabong’s 4th Annual ‘Design For Humanity’. This year it was set in El Lay, in the NY Streets at Paramount studios Back lot. Covering more than a massive block it featured 2 concert stages, DJ dance parties, Art Galleries & Installations, a bikini fashion show, Red Carpet Photo Op, a VIP Street and so much more. Coming together to benefit the Invisible Children Organization.
It was a combination of the laid back Surf Industry meets the chic trendy El Lay crowd. Some of the outfits were a little over the top, but I guess you can never be too dressed up for the Bright Lights of the Big City.
The hottest trends for girls were Rompers, Rompers, Rompers, Dresses and Boots. If you weren’t showing your legs off, you shouldn’t have shown up!! By the way, just because it’s summer, doesn’t mean you should put away your boots. Boots ARE the new black. They have taken place of the usual open toe summer shoe that you would typically wear. Mid-Calf boot for the girl who wants to go for the polished look; Cowboy boots for the girl that wants to be fun and innocent; and Ankle boots for the girl that wants to be edgy and take a chance.
Color was HOT. Bright vibrant colors in soft fabrics, like Rayon’s, Modals & Chiffons. Trust me, you wanted to be noticed at this event. Surprisingly, most of the girls carried cute Clutches that SPARKLED like a diamond in the sky. They didn’t worry about making sure that their clutch blended, because this was another area that you wanted a pop of color to stand out.
If you remember to do at least one thing before you leave the house, make sure it’s ACCESSORIZE. This is the easiest area to be creative and anything goes. Bangles, Rings, Necklaces, you cant ever have too many. This is the icing on your Sprinkles cupcake, and who doesn’t like Sprinkles?
For the guys, it was all about being MAD for PLAID. Flannels, Jeans, crew & V-neck Tees, “The” Standard outfit for Any Joe, from Anywhere. There were guys who were sportin Fedoras, Drivers Caps, a few BB hats and one I don’t even know what it was, hat. Blazers seemed to be the choice for the El Lay guys and Flannels for the OC guys. All color variations of checks & plaids and a few solids here and there.
It was a very diverse crowd of guys from polished shoes w/ ties; to Flip Flops and Sneakers and only 1 no-shoe guy at the end of the night, hmmmm I thought only girls did that?
No one needed jackets, as the weather was amazing all day and into the evening. The Moon was unbelievable tonight and there were plenty of stars out.
Check out the video of everyone having a great time. I’m hoping you’ll feel like you were there.
Keep it Fashion,
RT
